Lore & Background

As the Exile enters these broken halls, they witness the lingering effects of a magical catastrophe. The architecture itself groans under the weight of dark energy, and the spirits of the past are twisted by Vaal corruption. This act highlights the cyclical nature of power in Wraeclast, where ancient empires rise and fall, leaving only ruins for new exiles to navigate.

In Their Own Story

The air tasted of ash and ozone as I stepped into the Sanctum. Once a place of golden light, now it was choked by violet shadows. Malachai stood atop the broken altar, his robes fluttering in a wind that did not exist outside. He spoke of empires long dead, but all I heard was the echo of my own footsteps on shattered stone. The past was not buried here; it was waiting to kill me.

Reader's Guide

Act 4 immerses players in a darkened version of Atziri’s former domain, characterized by crumbling architecture and oppressive magical pressure. The environment shifts from ruined corridors to open chambers filled with Vaal energy. Key landmarks include the central altar where Malachai resides and various side chambers containing trapped spirits or corrupted guardians. Difficulty scales as players progress deeper into the sanctum, introducing tougher Vaal enemies that utilize magic and summoning abilities. This act connects directly to the broader game loop by concluding the initial campaign's conflict with the Vaal faction. Completing the act rewards players with an artifact required for Act 5, facilitating interaction with Zana and unlocking further narrative progression into the Labyrinth.
